I think my PE days are numbered. I’m sitting here in a Starbucks in Sacramento, minutes away from the Kennedy School where I’m to test. I’m sitting here with the same materials I’ve had for the last three (3) times I’ve tested. There are 3 PE subtests. I passed the first one using my phenomenal writing skills. There was a question about Pickleball. I never even heard of the game. I passed the test simply by deducing what the examiner wanted. The first set of equipment I bought when I started teaching PE was a Pickleball set for all Jr. High students. It’s a great game.
So, this test is all about self esteem, student participation, team juggling (what IS that?) and bocce ball. I’m to know and understand the developmental progression for an overhead volleyball serve. *For a right hand serve, the feet are in stride position with the left foot forward….* etc. I’m supposed to know how to motivate my students, regardless of their abilities, and to help them develop responsible personal and social behaviors that encourage lifelong activity.
Can’t they just ask me about running? 🙂
Okay, what’s the difference between non-locomotor and locomotor skills again? Kidding. That one I know.
