Had to get a quick run in last night between school and my oldest son’s baseball game at 7:15, so had to run in the (ACK!) warm, then cold.  I know, 63 is not bad, but I sweat so much that it’s like a wetsuit when I’m done.  I hadn’t run since our long run…I had done the elliptical, and we walked 3.5 miles on Monday morning but…no running.  It’s funny how you can just somehow fit it in.

Thanks to Viking Runner, who emailed me about my taper question.  It seems that we had finished our training one week ealy, so I didn’t know what to do with the empty week.  Earlier,  Husker Running had suggested that I do an extra 10 miler, but then she wasn’t sure …that maybe I needed fresh legs.  So, we did a mini taper this week, and will run 5 or 6 tomorrow, then maybe 8 on Sunday….

Next week calls for three short runs, then Sunday, April 19 is the River City Half Marathon.  Right around the corner.

I was going to go to visit my family in LA for the week, but knowing me in my Mom’s house, it would be nothing but chocolate Easter bunnies, homemade potato salad, deviled eggs, out to lunch, etc.  I just can’t afford to invite more extra pounds on my little race…Maybe when I’m a more seasoned runner, I will be able to manage a vacation the week before a run.  But, not yet.

It’s minimum day today, followed by 10 days of freedom spring break.  You cannot imagine how much I need this!!

  1. Ooh, you are going to have to be uber-disciplined to handle the parents house. You might think about cutting the vaca a few days short. Are the boys going with you?

  2. Deviled eggs are a trigger food for me. I eat obscene amounts of them, given the opportunity. I was a latchkey child, and I can vividly recall once making a half dozen deviled eggs dinner for myself as an after-school snack.

    Things I could eat until I exploded:
    * deviled eggs
    * barbecued ribs
    * bacon
    * buttered popcorn
    * grandma’s “Irish” spaghetti [spaghetti with sauce composed of bacon, green pepper, onion, and tomato sauce]
    * KFC original recipe
    * Macaroni & Cheese, especially the Kraft Dinner variety

    Yes, I have struggled with my weight. Why?

  3. you are going to do great at your half! Enjoy the taper. I sweat when I run as well, you should see the treadmill when its all over.
