tread peeling

feels like a wrapper that is stuck to my shoe

only mile 11

have a long way to go with half a shoe tread

i look down

i’m losing my mind because nothing is stuck

at the end, i see nothing

because there is nothing holding my shoe together

but some raggedy second layer

and memories

the catwalk, the regular route, the golf course

the moonrise and sunrise

by smiling happy cows

but the places i didn’t want to go…

like napa and heartache

over the catwalk crying like a baby

and when my heart broke

you waited patiently for me in the garage

with all the older versions

waiting until one day i would lace you up again

turn the corner

and sprint toward home. back to myself.
