when i came to the desert yesterday, i didn’t know that i would be leaving 70 rocks here.

i spend time with a woman who holds my history.

she helps me unwind and unweave.

and brick by brick, we take out each rock.

there are tears.  anger.  but, most of all.

my sponsor likes to say:

take your pack off and stay a while.

by the time i get on the other side of this sign tomorrow,

i will be holding an empty backpack.

ready to fill up and empty over and over again.

because life.  it’s for the living.
